Dr. James Scheifley
Owner / Veterinarian
Dr. James was born and raised in Houston, Texas. His interest in animals began at a very early age, as he was constantly bringing home strays, much to the dismay of his parents. He attended Texas A&M University, where he graduated in 2001 with honors in Biomedical Science, and then went on to attend Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated with honors in 2005.
Dr. James started his career at Brock Veterinary Clinic in Lamesa, TX, doing a one-year internship as a mixed-animal practitioner, with a primary focus on equine surgery and medicine. He remained in Lamesa for the next two years as an associate veterinarian to hone the advanced surgical and diagnostic skills that he gained during his internship. After leaving Lamesa, he joined All Creatures Animal Hospital in Granbury, TX, and worked as a predominantly small-animal practitioner. He spent the next two years working for Abbott Animal Health as a veterinary liaison. During that time, he received extensive training in anesthesia, with a specific emphasis on how to utilize Sevoflurane. As a veterinary liaison, he developed personal relationships with many anesthesiologists, gaining insight and perspective into the challenges of anesthesia, as well as opportunities for educational improvement. He has trained private practitioners, not only on anesthetic concepts and practices, but also on how to most effectively and efficiently utilize Sevoflo. This in-clinic training has included emergency and specialty hospitals in New York, general practitioners in Minnesota, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, as well as overseas in Scotland and England. Dr. James was also the instructor for the new hire anesthesia training at Abbott Animal Health, which includes review of anatomy and physiology, concepts of anesthesia and the anesthetic process, and basics of Sevoflo.
Dr. James started North Texas Veterinary Clinic in 2011, as he felt led by the Lord to better serve others and his community. He owes all of the clinic’s successes to God, and feels truly blessed to be able to do what he loves every single day. His professional interests include surgery, anesthesia, and pain management. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, where he serves on the legislative committee.
In his spare time, Dr. James enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, son and goldendoodle, Layla; as well as golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, and watching Aggie football!
